Foundational learning is where children develop the literacy, numeracy and socio-emotional skills that shape their ability to learn, work and participate in society. It is the base on which all human capital is built.
Yet across Africa the learning crisis remains severe. Nearly 9 in 10 children in Sub-Saharan Africa cannot read and understand a simple text by age ten. For girls, the challenge is even more profound: structural barriers continue to limit access to education and learning opportunities in many communities.
Educated girls become strong women. And strong women build strong communities.
Across the continent, women power foundational learning every day. They are mothers guiding a child’s first words, educators shaping classrooms, and leaders building stronger systems for the next generation.
