Meet Our CEO
Dr. Oby is one of the driving forces behind some of Nigeria’s most progressive reforms that challenged corruption, extremism, and gender-based violence. She is considered as one of Africa’s fearless advocates that have paved the way for a better tomorrow for Africa’s future generations. She is more popularly known as ‘Madam Due Process’ for her relentless drive to eradicate all forms of corruption and malpractices which includes refining the Nigerian government’s public procurement and contracting practices. She is also a co-founder of Transparency International as she was recognized as a trailblazer in the global world for advocating for anti-corruption practices that are rampant across countries.
In the political world, she is recognized as serving as a former Federal Minister for Solid Minerals in which she is given credit for revamping the Nigerian mining sector and making it a lucrative location for mining investments. Soon after in 2006, she was appointed as the Minister of Education which was perhaps a watershed moment in Nigeria’s education history that helped in the realignment of Nigeria’s education policy with that of achieving the Education For All (EFA) targets and the Millennium Development Goals. Dr. Oby’s undaunting ambition and commitment for Africa combined with her first-hand experience of solving complex problems during her stint in the Government led her to be appointed as the World Bank’s Vice President for Africa in 2007. She without a doubt played an important role in transforming the World Bank’s role to be better suited to cater to Africa’s needs and interests.
HCA is a synthesis of Dr. Oby’s unwavering allegiance and dedication to improving the lives of Africa’s future generations while utilizing her widespread expertise, influence, and leadership qualities to actually deliver and envision an Africa that has a better tomorrow for its children.
Our Board Members
Our leadership will be guided by a representative board of influential and committed regional leaders, chaired by the well renowned Her Excellency, Doctor Joyce Banda
An entrepreneur, activist, politician, and philanthropist, Her Excellency Joyce Banda served as the President of the Republic of Malawi from 2012-2014. She was Malawi’s first female president and Africa’s second. Prior to assuming office, President Banda served as a Member of Parliament, Minister of Gender and Child Welfare, Foreign Minister, and Vice President of the Republic of Malawi. While serving as Minister of Gender and Child Welfare, she championed the enactment of The Prevention of Domestic Violence Bill (2006), which provided the legal framework to support the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls. President Banda was named by Forbes as Africa’s Most Powerful woman 2013 and 2014 respectively.
President Banda is an international speaker on leadership, democracy, good governance, and women’s and girl’s rights and motivational speaker. She has delivered numerous lectures at universities including Harvard Medical School and the Kennedy School of Politics, the London School of Economics and Political Science, George Washington University, Kansas State University, among others.

Alero Ayida Otobo is considered a specialist in understanding the intricacies of sector-wide reform, its challenges, and its implementation in Africa. Her unwavering commitment in the realm of education and health has played a significant role in improving the lives of millions of individuals in Africa. Her role as the Senior Advisor and Transformation Task Leader to the Minister of Education in Nigeria during 2006/2007 paved the way for the prioritization of education and focusing the government budget on education interventions that are backed by empirical evidence. It is Alero’s mission to change the global narrative of Africa while building a community of reformers that will take responsibility and ownership of their respective African nations.
Alero joins the HCA team as part of HCA’s executive leadership team, she brings her extensive experience of implementing education interventions in Africa and will play a key role in strategizing HCA’s advocacy efforts to prioritize FLN in the region of Africa.
