September 3, 2021 Human Capital Africa

Human Capital Africa (HCA) is an influential and transformative initiative that aims to promote accountability and advocacy in Africa. Spearheaded by the esteemed Obiageli Ezekwesili, Nigeria’s former Minister of Education and World Bank Vice President for the African region, HCA was officially launched during the highly anticipated 27th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES27).

This year’s summit, held under the compelling theme “Securing our Future: The Fierce Urgency of Now,” provided the perfect platform to introduce HCA and its mission to the world. With a deep understanding of the critical role that human capital plays in driving sustainable development, HCA is committed to harnessing Africa’s vast potential by focusing on the continent’s most valuable resource – its people.

By advocating for increased investment in education, healthcare, and skills development, HCA aims to empower individuals and communities, ultimately leading to inclusive growth and prosperity across the African continent.

The launch of HCA at NES27 was a momentous occasion, attracting the attention of policymakers, business leaders, and civil society organizations from across Africa and beyond. The event served as a rallying call for all stakeholders to recognize the urgent need to prioritize human capital development as a key driver of economic progress. During her keynote address, Obiageli Ezekwesili passionately emphasized the importance of seizing the present moment to secure a brighter future for Africa. She highlighted the pressing challenges faced by the continent, such as a burgeoning youth population, inadequate access to quality education, and a growing skills gap. Ezekwesili stressed that addressing these issues requires immediate action and a collective commitment to investing in human capital. HCA’s launch at NES27 marked the beginning of an exciting journey towards transforming Africa’s human capital landscape. Through strategic partnerships, policy advocacy, and innovative initiatives, HCA aims to drive tangible change and create an enabling environment for individuals to thrive and contribute to their societies.
