Human Capital Africa, in collaboration with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, (FCDO), Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), hosted ministers of education and other key education stakeholders at the Africa Ministerial Breakfast Dialogue on Improving Foundational Learning at the Education World Forum.
Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili moderated the session, which included representatives from twelve countries and nine ministers of education.
The critical conversations were around.
– What is the current foundational learning situation, and where are we headed?
– What progress has been made, and what do we know works?
– How can we maximize the African Union year of education to scale foundational learning?
The ministers in the room acknowledged that solutions led by Africans must take the forefront and be driven by data. They also agreed that a significant shift in how food and livelihood needs were addressed was crucial and that developing integrated programs by development partners was vital.
The room also had the Coalition for foundational learning, and other development partners.
The meeting was an important milestone in maintaining the momentum for improved FL education outcomes in the Year of Education. This meeting follows up on the HCA/ADEA Call to Action made at the HCA Roundtable earlier this year and the recommendations from the ADEA/HCA Ministerial Coalition’s communique from the ADEA high-level policy dialogue last year.
